Krystle

Jennifer Smith, Associate DVM
Medical Director

Dr. Jennifer Smith started with SWVC in September 2021 and is our new Medical Director as of June 2022. Being a relatively new resident of the New England area, she enjoys having all four seasons again and is adjusting well by taking advantage of hiking, horseback riding, lakes, skiing, and all the beautiful coastal beaches. Since graduating from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, she has focused her medicine on small animal practice, dental health, client education, and soft tissue surgery. Dr. Smith truly loves meeting all the animal-loving owners and working together with them to create the very best health and happiness for their pets.

Krystle

Krystle Schultz, Associate DVM
Veterinarian

Growing up in Western Massachusetts, Krystle has always loved animals of every species. She obtained bachelor’s degrees in both Marine Biology and Animal Science from the University of Rhode Island. While she was there, she performed genetic research on beluga whales both in the wild and at Mystic aquarium. One day, while observing surgery on a harp seal, she realized her dream of becoming a veterinarian.

Krystle obtained her veterinary degree from Tufts University. During her time there, she participated in research evaluating post-operative pain in dogs following orthopedic surgery. Her favorite parts of veterinary school included spending two weeks in North Carolina to participate in the ASPCA’s Spay/Neuter Alliance and spending several weeks at the community outreach clinic. Although she enjoys all areas of veterinary medicine, she has special interests in both surgery and ophthalmology.

While she is not practicing veterinary medicine, Krystle enjoys cooking, watercolor painting, and visiting the ocean every chance she gets. Krystle and her husband, Jake, have a Boston terrier named Gamora, a Pittie mix named Drax, and two very spoiled cats named Blake and Maggie. They also share their home with an axolotl named Jelly.

Heather

Heather
Lead Veterinary Technician

Heather’s love for animals and helping pets started her career in veterinary medicine at a local animal shelter/rescue. From there, her passion to deliver quality patient care drove her to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology where she graduated from Mount Ida College in 2014. After graduation, she started on our surgical team in April 2016 where she discovered her love of the energy and excitement of surgery days. When she is not on the operating room, Heather can be found cuddling and comforting every patient that comes into the exam room with her and the doctor. Heather’s experience, knowledge, and leadership skills make her our go-to lead technician both in the surgical suite and exam appointments. When she is not at work, she spends a lot of time with her family and her baby, a Sussex Spaniel named Stewart..

Shealah

Shealah
Certified Veterinary Technician

Shealah has been with South Windsor Veterinary Clinic since March 2020. At the hospital, you can find her in doctor’s appointments, surgery, or just helping out all of her colleagues around the hospital. You will always know where Shealah is in the hospital by her singing to the music she is playing in her pocket that day! She is passionate about providing quality care for her patients and the owners, which lead her to pursue her associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology at Middlesex Community College where she graduated from in 2019. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends, hiking, going to the beach, and traveling. She shares her home with her fiance, Mitch, as well as her Belgian Shepherd, Valentine, and her kitty, Sterling.

Amys

Amy, AVA
Veterinary Assistant

After working as a speech language pathologist for many years, it was time for Amy to begin a new journey working to help animals and their owners, and fulfill her love of animals. Amy attended Manchester Community College and received her Approved Veterinary Assistant Certificate in June 2019. Shortly after, she started working as a veterinary assistant here at SWVC in Fall 2020. She loves working with such great team members and strives to help wherever needed. She has lots of compassion and empathy for animals and people, and loves that each day offers challenges and learning experiences to grow. She enjoys meeting patients and works hard to make them comfortable, loved, and special, as each one is unique. In her time away from work, she is a Mom to an elder cockatiel who has lots to ‘talk’ about -all good words! She likes to garden, spend time outdoors doing a variety of sports, spending time with friends, traveling, and reading thriller and mystery novels.

Raquel

Raquel
Veterinary Assistant

Raquel started working for SWVC in November of 2014. Raquel’s passion for helping animals started at a young age but her interest for working in the veterinary field became apparent when she took a veterinary assistant elective in high school and passed with flying colors. As a veterinary assistant now, she works in many aspects of the hospital. You will see her helping take care of and comforting patients during treatments and procedures or at the front desk helping out our clients with whatever they need. Raquel considers working closely with the doctors and helping them with diagnostics and treatments to be the most rewarding part of her job. She loves watching a pet feel better due to the diligent efforts of her fellow staff members and veterinarians. Outside of work, Raquel enjoys spending time with her family, including two nieces and two nephews (yay auntie life!). She loves relaxing by her pool in the warm months and driving around town blasting Taylor Swift with her friends. Her fur family includes a spicy calico cat named Olivia and a few Standard Rabbits.

She is a graduate of UConn with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science and Tunxis Community College with an Associate’s Degree in General Science.  She also works as a part-time lecturer at Manchester Community College in their veterinary assistant program. She is considered fluent in American Sign Language and loves advocating for the Deaf community. When not at work Ashley loves to spend any free time outside whether that be hiking, at the beach, or just sitting in her backyard. She is an avid gardener, plant lover, and art enthusiast. Although, to her husband’s dismay sometimes, Ashley is known for bringing animals in need into her home, fixing them up, and finding them their forever people. She says her favorite part of working in veterinary medicine is being able to make pets in the clinic feel like they are safe and comfortable, as well as making sure any client questions are answered to make them feel better about their pets’ care. You’ll find her in appointments mostly but her favorite place is looking into the microscope or booping all the noses. Ashley shares her home with her husband Jake, a Great Pyrenees mix named Tundra, and their 3 cats, Popcorn, Naco, and Lady.
Larisa

Jess
Veterinary Assistant

Jess has been working in veterinary medicine since 2007. After being born and raised in Ohio, she came to Connecticut and started her career at SWVC in June of 2021. Ohio’s loss was our gain, since Jess has now brought her love and compassion toward animals, as well as her infectious laugh and personality up north. She has always loved animals and wanted to take care of them since she was very young, and feels lucky to be able to do what she loves every day. Outside of work, she resides with her husband, Craig, and 4 awesome kids. Her fur family consists of 2 adorable chihuahuas – Halo and Beebee, 3 crazy loveable cats – Cloud, Letty, and Link and a cute mischievous ferret – Clementine. When she is not taking care of animals, she loves video games and horror movies, going to concerts and painting pictures with acrylic.

Patty graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1996 with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and then spent the next seven years working as a technician at a local veterinary clinic. In 2002, when the South Windsor Veterinary Clinic opened, Patty was one of our very first employees. Dr. Rose referred to her as the “Chief Cook and Bottle Washer!” Patty stayed home with her children while they were young, then rejoined our team a few years ago as a receptionist. She loves helping pet owners care for their very special four-legged family members! When Patty is not at work, she is busy with her three teenagers, their sweet orange kitty, Pumpkin, and their super silly rescue dog, Bodie!

Stacie

Stacie became part of the team at South Windsor Veterinary Clinic in February 2020 as a receptionist. Around the hospital she is known for her dedication to exceptional client care, and is affectionately referred to as the “clinic mom” since she is always helping out her coworkers. Outside of the hospital, she has two daughters who are 12 and 10, and they love animals just as much as she does. Her family likes to take their dog, Inka, to the park and go on fun trips such as the beach, zoo, or amusement parks.
